“The fear of light” by bsp

...I'lI skip the transaction stuff and get to the story...A new car dealer in Tampa owed me $74. This was before Facebook and social networking which demonstrates even more the power of the individual.

...If I sued them I would end up spending more than $74....Every time I showed up to get my check I was met with a different excuse...The last excuse was that the person qualified to sign the check was on vacation...The thing that upset me the most was their don't give a shit attitude and smirky faces... I said loud enough for all to hear...”I'll be back on Saturday to get my check or picket ur business.”

...On Saturday I arrived..to get the excuse that the person needed to sign the check was off ...I should come back on Monday....”Enough”...I went to my van which was parked off of their property and got my sign...I had fastened a large cardboard sign to a large push broom...”They owe me $74.16” painted in large letters)... I walked back and forth...to taunts from their intercom “It's hot out there”...”That sign looks heavy...Did you make it?” etc. etc.

...An employee changed the sign to read “See the Yahoo” “Yahoo sale today” (before the Yahoo internet Yahoo was a slang for idiot)

...Then a car pulled up to where I was walking...and a guy with mirror sunglasses got out and leaned on the car...As I got close he said “The last guy that tried this met with an accident” Now I was pissed and I shouted “Your suit looks funny...Ya watch too much TV and if u try anything I'll wrap this sign around ur fuckin head.” He went to the office and then left...Then a mechanic started down over the hill with a baseball bat...”Don't come closer with that bat” I suggested...”I was sent down here to protect you....” he answered...”I don't need protection”...He went back...

...By this time horns were blowing...I was getting thumbs up...and several people pulled over to learn more....

...The Tampa police arrived...and questioned what I'm doing? I explained the problem...and they went to the office...They returned and said I was within my rights to picket as long as I did not get on their property ...interfere with their customers or block the entrance... one of the cops said “Give us a call if there are any more threats.”

...After a few hours I packed up and went to lunch...”Aw! Yer not leavin are ya?” came over the intercom....After lunch I returned...and with my sign started walking...”Please come to the office and get ur check” ...as I walked into the showroom and approached the desk...I was handed my check for $74.16 and he said “That wasn't so hard was it?” which to this day I don't understand...I said nothing...and left check in hand...

….My daughter more recently purchased a used car at a local Ford dealer and was told the a/c did not work ...and the car was being sold as-is but the shop would be fix the a/c...Before she even got home the a/c stopped working...I had a mechanic look at it and he said it would cost $450. for him to fix it...The dealer insisted that it was sold as-is and nowhere was it in writing that the a/c would be fixed...I sat down with two of the managers with coffee and told them the $74.16 story....”Is that a threat?' asked one of them...”No it's a promise...I will be out there on Saturday for as long as it takes”....I was called not long after that meeting...they said that after investigation I could pick up a check for $450....Which I did...

...The importance of these stories is their fear of light....There are lessons here that can be useful in our quest to stop animal abuse...We are the light that the torture chambers and abusers fear...bsp
